Ovocyte Donation

Ovocyte Donation

What is ovocyte donation?

This is the donation of ovocytes to women whose ovules do not let them conceive. Women have to use donated ovocytes for a range of reasons including having had a serious illness, having gone through a bout of chemotherapy or the possibility of passing an illness onto their child.

HELP ANOTHER WOMAN TO BE A MOTHER!

There is absolute anonymity and before the donation takes place you undergo a medical examination to check for gynaecological problems, genetic illnesses and sexually transmitted diseases, thus receiving important information about your own health at no financial cost.

Who can be an ovocyte donor?

Any woman over 18 and under 35 that is healthy and altruistic can be an egg donor.

How do you donate an egg?

In order to guarantee the health of the donor, the receiving couple and their offspring, and avoid risks during the donation itself and to make sure that suitable ovocytes can be obtained for the reproductive procedure, it is necessary to conduct:

Confidential interview.

Gynaecological and clinical exploration.

Gynaecological ultrasound and cervical cytology.

Blood group analysis.

General analysis and testing for infectious diseases.

Karyotype analysis and testing for genetic diseases.

Once through the selection process, the donor must complete the following stages, all under strict medical supervision:

Take subcutaneous medication daily for a period of 15 days. To make the procedure easier our staff can train each donor to do this herself, but we would be willing to do this in our own consultation rooms. The aim of this is to get more than one ovule in order to increase the efficiency of the donation.

Have a gynaecological ultrasound every other day for 10 days. This is a quick procedure and takes no more than 15 minutes at a time convenient for you.

Have an ovarian puncture to extract the ovules. This is an invasive procedure that is an out-patient treatment under local or general anaesthetic. After 1-3 hours, the patient can return to her home and continue with life as normal.

Is there any compensation?

Spanish legislation ensure that donation is anonymous and altruistic. However, AVANTIA does consider compensation for travel expenses and the inconvenience caused to the donor. The AVANTIA Fertility Institute complies with all relevant laws and assumes the cost of exploratory procedures, tests and medication used during the procedure.

Does donating affect my fertility?

No. During each natural cycle, the ovary begins maturating various ovocytes though only one of them completes its development; the rest are lost. The treatment recovers the ovocytes that would not have developed in normal circumstances and thus affects neither the quality nor the number of ovocytes the donor woman may use in the future.

Does it have any impact in my health?

While all medical procedures carry some risk, both ovarian stimulation and follicular puncture are safe procedures which under medical supervision have a very low level of risk. The prior tests and analyses alert you to any problems or additional risks before you start on any medication..

Will either the recipient or the future child know my identity?

Not at all, the law guarantees that neither the recipient nor the new-born can know the donor’s identity.

Do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or problem you may have before and during the procedure. We have a dedicated phone number for donors managed by health personnel. .
