This offers an alternative to controlled ovarian hyperstimulation treatments necessary to recover mature ovocytes for in vitro fertilization procedures. In this instance, immature ovocytes are recovered with no need of any treatment or after minimun stimulations and are later matured at the laboratory to conduct FIV or ICSI treatments. This is the recommended treatment for patients with contraindication to hormonal treatments (allergies, hormonally associated cancer), in those with risk to developing them (polycystic ovary syndrome or history of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome) or simply in those who do not wish to receive injections of hormonal therapy.
Although the gestation rate is lower than in conventional IVF-ICSI, it is a new tool to help certain patients to conceive with reduced risks.
